Bimatoprost (eye drops)

Bimatoprost is an eye medication used to reduce pressure in the eye caused by fluid buildup (glaucoma).

Bimatoprost reduces pressure in the eye by causing excess fluid in the eye to move into your blood.

You may experience:

  • Change in eye color

  • Darkening of skin around eye

  • Redness and itching of eye

  • Pain in eye

  • Growth of eyelashes

Your eye lashes will return to normal after you stop using this medication.

You may eat normally while taking bimatoprost.

If you forget to take your prescription, take it as soon as you remember.

If you miss a dose, don’t take a double dose.

If your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and take the next one.

Bimatoprost can cause blurred vision shortly after use. If you experience this side effect, it is advisable to wait for it to pass before you drive or operate machinery.

Bimatoprost isn’t addictive.

Bimatoprost has not been shown to affect sexual performance, fertility or contraceptives.

You should inform your doctor before using bimatoprost when pregnant or breastfeeding.
